My Role
For this limited edition print produced by Phaidon and Artspace, I was responsible for overseeing the creation and documentation of a large scale complex collage painting that served as the foundation for this intricate artwork. My involvement extended from the initial stages of coordinating with Sarah Sze to develop the layered design, through to the final production and finishing phases. I collaborated closely with a trusted print shop to execute a highly technical printing process, which combined inkjet and screen printing techniques on embossed Rives BFK paper. This required managing the precise alignment of multiple layers to ensure that each print reflected the nuanced details of Sze’s signature visual language.
I also coordinated the integration of hand-torn collage elements and gold leaf embellishments, which added a tactile, sculptural quality to each print. The challenge of balancing mechanical precision with the organic qualities of the handmade elements was a key focus of my work. Additionally, I was responsible for quality control and ensuring that the edition met the artist’s exacting standards, from the richness of the colors to the sharpness of the embossed details.
Throughout the project, I worked alongside the artist to document the process for archival and promotional purposes. This documentation captured the evolving nature of Sze’s practice, highlighting the balance between construction and deconstruction in her work. My role involved coordinating logistics, timelines, and communication between all parties involved, ensuring the edition’s timely release alongside the accompanying Phaidon monograph.
Proceeds from the sale of the limited edition will be donated to Free Arts NYC and Breakthrough Collaborative , to support programming and access to arts education.
